Reading

Through reading, we develop H.E.A.R.T.—Honesty builds trust, Excellence inspires us to learn and grow, Accountability empowers us to own our choices and actions, Respect teaches us to value diverse perspectives and show kindness, and Thoughtfulness reminds us to consider our impact on others and the world.

Read to Succeed is a South Carolina statewide literacy law and program designed to ensure that all students can read at grade level by the end of third grade. Our School Reading Plan provides a focused, consistent approach to literacy instruction and support, helping ensure that every student develops the skills needed to become a fluent, confident reader.

Reading Materials

In South Carolina, public education is built on trust, which requires mutual respect, clear communication, and meaningful collaboration between parents and educators. Parents deserve to understand what their children are learning in public schools and have the opportunity to raise concerns about instructional materials they believe may not be age- or developmentally appropriate.
